Dr. Yelena Nikolayevna Zabortseva's expertise is linked to multi-disciplinary aspects of international affairs, international security and Eurasian affairs.

Her work bridges academic research, public service, and media commentary, translating complex global developments into evidence-based analysis. 

Her educational background is in international relations, and international economics.

Her professional experience includes academia (as a lecturer at the University of Sydney, following completion of her PhD there; and as Associate Professor at Kazakh Economic University), public service in Kazakhstan(as a Head of IR&PA Office at Kazakhstan’s Financial Superintendent) and in Australia( Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet; Department of Industry, Energy, Science and Resources) , and in international consultancy(WEF).

She has previously appeared on the ABC and SBS as a commentator on Russia-West relations, and on Kazakhstan’s affairs.

Dr. Zabortseva is the author of more than 40 articles and monographs on international relations, including peace and conflict studies, security studies, international competitiveness, international investment flows, and post-Soviet Studies.
